A Very Fine First Period Dr. Wall Worcester Teapot and Cover, of large pear shape with double interlaced handles  and scrolled spout, the slightly domed cover with open flower finial, beautifully decorated in the very finest detail with dry blue sprays of European flowers, in many different tones, including: auriculas, roses, harebells, lilies, chrysanthemum and forget-me-nots, with very fine gold dentil borders.

Circa 1770

Height: 71⁄4 ins (17 cms) Mark: crossed swords and numeral 9 in underglaze blue to the underside of the teapot.

The hand seen on this teapot is one of the finest to work in this style and medium. The flowers are shaded and detailed in such a way as to show a true mastery of the dry blue enamels. The shape is the grandest form of teapot made by the factory at this time and in the French taste.
