The
Highly Important Royal Armorial Presentation Chafing Dish, and
Stand, bearing the personal Royal arms of Frederick-Augustus II,
Elector of Saxony, King Augustus III of
Poland
.
Made
during the year 1745.
Length
of the Chafing dish which includes the pear wood handle: 113⁄4
ins. (30 cms.)
Diameter
of the stand: 101⁄2 ins. (26.5 cms.)
Height
with cover in place and positioned on the stand: 7 ins. (17 cms.)
Marks:
Blue crossed swords marks in underglaze blue to the underside of the
stand and the chafing dish, the stand also with pressnummer 22.
Provenance:
Frederick-Augustus
II, Elector of Saxony, King Augustus III of
Poland
. Ordered by his Queen Maria-Josepha as a personal gift to her
husband the King after twenty five years of Marriage and thence by
descent, until at some point leaving the Royal collection.
The
collection of their Graces The Dukes of Westminster.

An
extremely important Meissen KPM Chinoiserie Teapot and Cover, of
bombe form, painted on each side by Christian Friedrich Herold with
Chinese figures at various pursuits and in conversation, on one side
an elaborately attired chinaman with a pointed hat holds a flaming
torch aloft whilst bending down to stroke a child who rides out on a
white pony with a rich purple damasked saddle cloth, behind runs a
young child his arms akimbo holding three balloonlike kites and a
hankerchief which fly in the wind, in front a female figure wearing
a long sleaved purple gown and topknot headdress holds a fan, and
coaxes the horse with a fly whisk, on the other side three figures,
including a widow wearing a veil, a richly gowned lady and another
with a pointed hat, variously sit round a table and are in
conversation and eating from bowls, to one side is flowering
vegetation and to the other an alert exotic bird shrieks from a ball
finial beside a potted berried bush and a teapot, insects and
butterflies whirl above.

An
Extremely Important Meissen Lidded Tankard, of large cylindrical
form, decorated in a very bold palette by Johann Ehrenfried Stadler
with large Chinese figures at various activities one chinaman
wearing an iron red gown, kneeling and holding a fan, he points to
another Chinese gentleman who wears a green and gold hat and holds a
large circular parasol, to his right a further smaller Chinese
gentleman darts about with a fan and a kite, they all stand before
multicoloured garden border fences and are framed on each side with
large sprays of orange, yellow and purple indianishe blumen flowers,
below a gold and iron red diaper border with purple, blue and orange
alternating mons, the base with a similar meandering floral pattern,
the loop handle with running central ridge, the lower terminal to
the handle moulded with a stylised acanthus leaf, the contemporary
silver cover incised with a monogram and the initials ‘H A S D’
within a flat chased Laub und Bandelwerk border and with monogrammed
thumbpiece which is surmounted by a crown, probably by Jorgen
Jorgensen Egelsdorf d.E (Bergen).

An
extremely fine Meissen Teacaddy and cover, of shouldered rectangular
shape, each side painted with a scene from a Royal Saxon Hunt, the
front shows a hind and two young deers suckling, standing before a
moss covered tree infront of a formal garden with spouting cascade,
framed within a brown and gold rocaille base, to the right a Royal
huntsman dressed in the yellow jacket and holding a hunting horn
stands by his deer hound which looks back left towards the panel
containing the deer. The reverse with a pair of brown bears, another
silhouetted behind, one climbing a pine tree, the other biting a
stump, within a forest, framed with similar brown and gold rocaille
scrolls, to the right a seated man wearing a puce carmine jacket
looses his mastiffs, the slightly domed shoulder painted with three
sprigs of European flowers, and gilt line rim, the cover with very
small landscape scenes and similar three floral sprigs, with alpine
strawberry finial.

An
Extremely Fine Pair of Meissen Hares, both animals beautifully
modelled by J.J. Kaendler and naturalistically coloured with every
detail included, the Doe seated on her haunches looking to one side,
the Buck with ears alert supported by his back legs as he raises
himself to look at the viewer, both seated on rectangular bases
applied with colourful flowers and leaves.

A
very rare Meissen Figure of Harlequin with a birdcage, modelled by
J.F.Eberlein, seated wearing an elaborately scaled and py’d
costume, its sleeves and trousers pinned with playing cards, with a
rosette in his hat, his grimacing smiling face is painted with the
moon and the star on one cheek, he holds aloft a dove in his cuffed
right hand, his left hand resting on his knee, the open birdcage is
set to one side and a seated cat with ginger markings sits looking
up at the dove.

A
Rare Meissen Group of Harlequin and Columbine feeding Parrots,
modelled by J.J.Kaendler showing Columbine, wearing a floral painted
dress, her puce edged bodice laced with iron red threads her gently
smiling head inclined up towards a green parrot perched high up in a
tree that she tries to reach with her left hand, her right arm leans
on a small gilt edged circular table on which sits another green
parrot, Harlequin, wearing a conical hat, white ruff and jacket,
turquoise trousers and red heeled yellow shoes enters the scene from
behind and bursts into the fray, his scowling face painted with the
crescent moons, the mound base applied with flowers and leaves.
