Rare Pair of Nymphenburg Plates, of lobed shape, beautifully painted with people at conversation and at various pursuits within river landscapes framed with slightly windswept trees, within green quatrelobe cloud shaped cartouches, the gilt-edged rims wonderfully painted with fruit, including: an apple, cobb nuts, sloes, damsons, a melon together with brightly coloured butterflies and insects, with gilt rims.Circa 1755.

Impressed shield marks and 3

Diameter: 26 cm (10 ¼ in)

Only five other plates decorated in this very unusual and distinctive style are recorded, all were sold in Sotheby’s, London: one pair on 25th June 1948, lot 36; 2nd pair on 21st October 1980, lot 23; and one single plate on 25th May 1982, lot 180. Thus perhaps indicating that this design was for a single service and a special commission.
