A Very Fine and Large Nymphenburg Dish from the Hofservice made for the Kurfuerst (Elector) Max III Joseph of Bavaria, boldly painted, by Joseph Zaechenberger, in brilliant enamels with a large grey and purple butterfly inflight above a large, loose spray of flowers including two roses in iron red, a yellow carnation, three blue asters and various other European flowers. The broad shaped rim moulded with very fine gilt edged rococo scrolls and decorated with individual rose and tulip flowers, a butterfly and an insect. Circa 1760. Diameter: 25cms. Marks: potters mark and incised 90. This plate forms part of a large service which was delivered to the court of the Bavarian soverign, Kurfurst (Elector) Max III Joseph in 1763. The strength of painting dates this piece to the first stage of production of this service. Joseph Zaechenberger (1737-1802) is recorded to have worked at Nymphenburg between 1760-1770.
