A pair of Ludwigsburg Massive Deep Circular Dishes, painted with travellers in a wooded river landscape before a bridge with a house in the distance and with two travellers resting by a classical urn on a pedestal in a similar landscape supported on an elaborate rocaille, blue, puce, yellow, black and gilt scroll half-cartouche with garlands of foliage within an ozier moulded border with six similar river landscape vignettes, gilt line rims.

Circa 1770

Blue crowned interlaced C’s over 8 marks, both with impressed 3 and M, Pressnummer 8 to footrims and incised H marks.

Diameter: 18 ins (45.5cm)

Provenance:
Lord Normanton, Somerely House, Hampshire.

The style of the painting takes its influence from the Dutch Old masters, for example the rather tall slightly shaking trees are close to Meindert Hobbema’s style and the figures within the landscape evoke a sense of eternal calm which brings to mind the honeyed landscapes of Aelbert Cuyp.
