Rare Bow model of a Tawny Owl, well coloured and perched high upon a tree stump applied with three coloured flowers.

Circa 1750 - 1755

Height: 19.5 cm (7 ¾ in)

c.f. "Chelsea and other English porcelain in the Irwin Untermyer Collection", fig. 259 for a similar coloured owl.

'Chelsea, Bow & Derby Porcelain Figures' by Frank Stoner, Plate 105 for similar coloured owls.

This model is undoubtedly based on the saltglaze models and the creamware models of Whieldon type, emanating from Staffordshire in the late 1740's and early 1750's. See the Rous Lench collection. Christies May 30th 1990, lot 110. and lot 177 for both these models.
