An extremely rare early Worcester Cauliflower tureen, cover and stand, the flower itself highly naturalistically modelled and forming the tureen, with moulded green basal leaves extending across the tureen towards the flower, one forming the finial, printed in black with butterflies and moths, the leaf shaped stand enriched with puce veining and printed with further butterflies.

c. 1758

Height of tureen: 4 ins (10 cms)
Length of stand: 8 ¾ ins (22 cms)

No marks

Provenance: The Rous Lench Collection, Thomas Burn Esq.

Worcester made just two naturalistic tureen forms, and both during the early 1st decade, with only the partridge being produced post 1760. The printed decoration by no means appears on all cauliflower tureens and to have matching decoration on all component parts, is extremely rare. This example is illustrated in H.R. Marshall, Coloured Worcester Porcelain of the 1st Period, pl. 45. No. 934.
