A 1st period Dr. Wall Worcester Blind Earl moulded Teapot Stand or Sucrier base, crisply moulded in low relief with the typical leaves of the rose extending across the piece and applied at one side with two buds extending from the branch handle, delicately painted in puce monochrome with sprays of stylised flowers and leaves and two oval gilt scroll moulded panels, the scalloped edge with gilt line rim.

Circa: 1765

Diameter: 6 in (15 cms)

No marks

This rare form was used for the teapot stand prior to the use of the hexagonal form which appears to have taken over as a generically used form after 1765. Consequently there would have just been one of these stands within the entire service.

A fine and rare First Period Dr. Wall Worcester Dessert Plate, beautifully decorated in the London atelier of James Giles with an exotic bird perched on a rocky slab amidst vegetation, surrounded by European flowers.

Circa 1770

Diameter: 9 ins

No marks

The combination of ‘wet brush’ style painting of the bird surrounded by this type of flowers is most unusual.

A very fine and rare 1st Period Dr. Wall Worcester Sugar Bowl and Cover, beautifully and naturalistically decorated with sprigs and sprays of European flowers within gilt scrolled rococo cartouches reserved upon a blue scale ground, the similarly decorated ogival cover with open rose finial.

c.1765-68

Height: 4 ins (10 cms)

Mark: Seal mark in underglaze blue to underside of base.

This fine piece exhibits very early floral painting for blue scale pieces, the flowers being more akin to that style prevalent at Worcester at the beginning of the 1760’s. The gilding is beautifully controlled and has an unusual simple elegance afforded to it.
