A scalloped Worcester Dessert plate, painted by Jeffryes Hamett O'Neale, with probably the Fable of 'The Fox and the Bear', showing the Bear with a salmon in its mouth about to climb out of the river onto the bank, where the Fox lurches forward as if to steal the catch, standing beside a palm tree with long fronds, some poplars and other characteristic vegetation, before a distant river landscape that winds back to distant purple headed mountains, with birds in flight in the colourful sky overhead, within a complex gold scrolled diaper and lambrequin border of 'Kitley' type, on a wet blue ground, with gilt dentil rim. Circa 1768-70. Diameter: Mark: fretted blue square in underglaze blue to the underside. The Fable probably taken from Croxall, 'Aesop's Fables', 1722, No. 95.

Provenance: Private English Collection.
