A
very rare First Period Dr. Wall Worcester Sucrier Possibly decorated
in the London Atelier of James Giles, of fluted circular form, the
slightly domed cover with flower finial, beautifully painted with
panels of tomato scarlet red Japan gilt with quilted hatched diaper
alternating with panels of stylised flowering peonies and other
oriental plants in tones of green, iron red and turquoise, beneath
large reserved stylised Mons, the cover with similar decoration.

A
very rare early Worcester Pencilled Bowl, delicately potted with
beautifully everted rim, pencilled in black and grey enamel with a
Chinese landscape showing a Mandarin’s fortified home with
elaborate gatehouse, a billowing rock on one side and a sprouting
willow and pagoda on the other, two figures engaged in animated
conversation in the foreground, the interior with Chinese Ruyi
border.

Fine Early Worcester Coffee Cup, of delicate bell shape with everted
rim and wishbone handle, pencilled in light purple and puce with a
chinoiserie scene of figures at animated conversation within a
Chinese landscape, one seated beside a covered ginger jar, the other
leaning on a staff of office, before a pagoda and date palm, whilst
a river landscape extends to the distance, the reverse with a spray
of formal oriental flowers, the interior with alternating panels of
peonies, other oriental flowers and scrollwork.

An
extremely rare early Worcester Plate, of circular form with deep
cavetto centre, decorated in the famille verte style, the centre
painted with a bird perched within a flowering peony branch,
surrounded by bamboo shoots, the border decorated with panels of
green hatched diaper alternating with panels of stylised islands
with birds in flight over pencilled fences, red line border.

An
extremely rare early Worcester Coffee Cup and Saucer, painted in
puce camaieu, with a peacock perched on a slender branch under the overhanging fronds of a larch tree, above the
waters edge, before the distinct peaks of the Malvern Hills in the background where
the stylised Malvern Abbey nestles, enclosed within puce rococo
scrollwork, surrounded
with sprigs and sprays of green rose buds and red flowering mimosa,
within further puce scrollwork.

fine First Period Dr. Wall Worcester Yellow Ground Mask Jug, of
cabbage leaf moulded globular form with straight sided cylindrical
neck, the lip of the jug moulded in the form of a bearded man, the
ring handle with leaf moulded thumbrest and scrolled lower terminal,
beautifully decorated with three panels of coloured transfer prints
with gold highlights, ‘Milkmaids’, ‘Rural lovers’ and
‘Milking scene’, framed with puce scrolls and reserved on a
yellow ground painted with kakiemon style flowers, and insects below
a border of chrysanthemum and roses, around
the
neck of the jug a moulded border of leaves picked out in colours,
brown line rim.

Very Fine First Period Dr. Wall Worcester Teapot and Cover, of large
pear shape with double interlaced handles and scrolled spout, the
slightly domed cover with open flower finial, beautifully decorated
in the very finest detail with
dry blue sprays of European flowers, in many different tones,
including: auriculas, roses, harebells, lilies, chrysanthemum and forget-me-nots, with very fine gold dentil borders.

Fine First Period Dr. Wall Worcester Mug, of slightly waisted
cylindrical form, with applied strap handle, printed from an adapted
print by Robert Hancock after a design by Jean Pillement and engraved
by P.C.Canot, in a fine light tone of underglaze blue with ‘La Peche’
and ‘La Promenade Chinois’, showing a lady in oriental robes
casting her rod into a pool whilst a gentleman looks on from an arbour
to one side, the reverse showing a lady walking holding a parasol and
beside her a small child, both with top knots, a bird flies up on a
fence to one side.

Mark:
printed hatched crescent mark to the underside of the base of the mug.
Private
English Collection
The
two prints always occur together and therefore should be regarded as a
single pattern. The designs were first published in ‘Le Livres
Chinoise’ after designs by Pillement but engraved by Canot in 1758.
The adapted form used at
Worcester
by Hancock also appears in the ‘Ladies Amusement’ published by
Robert Sayer in 1760.

Fine Early Worcester Pedestal Sauceboat, the oval form moulded on
either side with scrolled cartouches, painted in underglaze blue with
the ‘Sinking Boat Fisherman’ pattern, the interior with a further
Chinese riverscene and border decoration of hatched diaper, leaves and
flowering prunus.

very fine Bow Octagonal Plate, painted in underglaze blue in Chinese
style with an oriental man wearing flowing
robes
and hat, carrying a staff of office, followed by a boy bearing scrolls
beside a tree and rocks, enclosed within a wavy solid blue border.

Fine First Period Dr. Wall Worcester Teabowl and Saucer , moulded in
crisp low relief with a band of scrolling chrysanthemum, the centre
painted in underglaze blue with an open blown chrysanthemum bloom, the
border painted with a formal lambrequin design.

First Period Dr. Wall Worcester cylindrical mug, of straight sided
form with strap handle printed in underglaze blue with the third
version of the ‘Parrot Pecking Fruit’ pattern showing the parrot
perched in a branch of the gnarled tree, leaning down and about to
peck some quinces which lie on the ground beside bunches of grapes,
strawberries and a pumpkin and other autumnal fruits with a butterfly
in flight to one side.
